Construction Education Foundation of Alabama Scholarship Program

CEFA has awarded $23,000 in scholarship funding in 2014 and the amount continues to grow. The value of this training exceeds $74,000. John Garrison, CEFA Board Chairman announced CEFA has provided 23 student scholarships. The scholarship recipients include veterans and high school students. Students have received funding to participate in the following trades: Electrical, HVAC, Carpentry, Pipefitting and Welding.

“We have students of all ages and walks of life, utilizing the scholarship program to access training,” reported Byron McCain CEFA President. The application process is very simple. Applicants are required to write a 750 to 1,000 word essay on why they want to learn a trade and state their need as well as participate in an interview with the CEFA staff. What needs to appear in the essay is posted in the CEFA website, just click on Scholarships, www.cefalabama.org.

McCain went on to say, “we are very proud to announce we have high school seniors from Hoover, Fairfield and Chelsea using the High School Scholarship program to access training during their senior year of high school. CEFA has its own version of dual enrollment. Our goal is to have students “job ready” at graduation.” Any high school senior in Jefferson, Shelby or St. Clair County is encouraged to apply. If space is available in a class CEFA will provide trade training for the costs of books, $250.00. For David Kourmoulis of Chelsea an investment of time and $250 has earned him a $5,800 scholarship in welding.

CEFA has the same scholarship offer available to veterans. If space is available in a class we will provide the training for the cost of books. Slots in classes for high school seniors and veterans are limited but anyone interested should apply.

The 2014 CEFA Annual golf tournament raised over $23,000 dollars in scholarship funds. The list of supporters appears below. CEFA also received a grant from the Robert Myer Foundation to provide funding.
